About Us

The Lion Theatre, Horncastle

Lion Theatre in Horncastle is a charity committed to delivering captivating performances that connect and inspire the local community through shared stories and creative expression.

About Us

The Company aims to put on a varied programme of productions each year including a traditional pantomime. Rehearsals are usually on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The high number of productions and regular social events make for a lively, interesting and friendly organisation.

We are a registered charity and the company relies on the time and effort of its members. New members are always welcome and we are a very social group.

Tuesday evening is considered “club night” and is always open to new members. Informal play readings and workshops happen regularly and this is a good opportunity to meet some of the members and have a look around the theatre.

There are many interesting jobs to be done; it is not just the actors who bring the show to you. There is always a need for set designers, scenery builders, lighting and Sound people, prompts, front of house staff, costume makers, graphic artists, musicians and many others for the thousand and one jobs that contribute to a successful group.

Young Stagers – aged 7 up to (& including) Y7 who meet on a Saturday morning 10:30am until 12:00pm. Upstagers – from Y8  up to (& including) age 18 (Y13 or equivalent), who meet on Fridays 4:30pm – 6:00pm.

  2. To encourage and develop members in the many facets of acting, production and association skills.
  3. To maintain and improve The Lion Theatre.

Lovely venue. A little run down but once the lights go down and the show starts, that doesn’t really matter. Would be great to see it bought back to its former glory.
Great show, plenty of dark humour – just what the doctor ordered. 😄

I have to declare an interest as a member of the theatre group but I always enjoy going to productions that I am not involved with. I see that another reviewer saw ‘My Cousin Rachel.’ I played Kendal in that play. Thanks for your comments.

Well worth taking the time to go to the amateur dramatic productions at the Lion Theatre.
I’ve been several times and always throughly enjoyed every visit. Proper old fashioned Theatre, with staff that take time and trouble to make your visit special. Ice cream is excellent too! 🍨
